As a teacher in a lower-income school, we are seeing more unacceptable behaviors along with increasing numbers of students requiring individual needs. With class sizes at the max, we are unable to take care of the emotional needs of students. In my particular building, parents and students are not held accountable. Accountability rests upon teachers who are working hard to meet all the demands. Lee’s Summit is too top-heavy; jobs trickle down, falling on teachers. In Special Education, RTI is not best practice to qualify students especially when caseloads are over 20+ kids. Transient schools are not helping kids that have a discrepancy but can’t qualify because there is no RTI data. Lee’s Summit is so far gone from what’s best for students.
